On May 31, 1980, Mary B. Clark, age twenty-six, placed her infant daughter in a campfire. She was charged with attempted murder in the first degree, AS 11.41.100(a)(1), and was acquitted on grounds of insanity. Following a disposition and commitment hearing, Superior Court Judge Ralph E.
