CLARK, Chief Judge:

Jimmy Lee Gray appeals from the district court's order denying his petition for habeas corpus relief. We affirm.

I. Background

On June 25, 1976, Derissa Jean Scales, a three-year old girl, disappeared from her parents' apartment in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
