In August of 1981, a Washington state court entered judgment in a domestic relations matter against Dennis Sarfaty, a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy, in favor of his ex-wife, Gudrun Sarfaty. At the time the judgment was entered LCDR Sarfaty was stationed in Philadelphia. Contending that the entry of that judgment violated his rights under the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act, 50 U.S.C. App. § 501...
