Connie Ray Evans and Alfonso Artis were jointly indicted in the Circuit Court of the First Judicial District of Hinds County, Honorable William F. Coleman, presiding, on a charge of capital murder. Evans entered a plea of guilty to the charge and the trial proceeded on the sentencing phase. After hearing the evidence, the jury found Evans guilty and sentenced him to death.
