Once again we seek to locate midway the fulcrum between the government's protective shield over an informer's identity and the aid that the informer's testimony might provide the defense. As our repeated consideration of the problem demonstrates, we have been unable to provide a notch that would make the point easy for litigants and trial courts to discover. Reviewing the conscientious effort of a trial judge, we reach a different conclusion...
