On September 14, 1979, appellant Jennifer Lynn Mannix was charged with murder. She was committed to the Arkansas State Hospital for a mental examination. The examining psychiatrist found that she was unable to appreciate the criminality of her acts or to conform her behavior to the requirement of the law.
