Over the course of eight years, defendant, the mother of seven, received welfare payments and benefits to which she was not entitled, by misrepresenting that she was neither employed nor receiving financial support from the children's father. She was charged by bill of information with the theft of food stamps, medical benefits and currency (welfare payments) valued at $26,633.42 belonging to the State Department of Family Services.
