On June 30, 1975, the positions of the ten petitioners, employees of the research laboratory at the Kalamazoo State Hospital, were terminated. They jointly filed grievances seeking to overturn the decision to terminate and were unsuccessful. On May 21, 1980, the decision of the hearing officer, denying the grievances, was affirmed by the circuit court. Petitioners appeal as of right.
