In 1953, while in the service of the United States Navy as a boiler tender, claimant suffered a back injury in the area of L4 and L5 which necessitated surgical intervention. Thereafter, following a brief period of recuperation and limited duty, he returned to full duty on December 2, 1953 and so remained until he was honorably discharged in 1955, at which time he commenced work as a truck driver which involved heavy lifting during the process of loading and unloading.
