The plaintiff, Danny Griffin, was injured on a vessel while in the employ of the defendant, Oceanic Contractors, Inc. He brought suit against his employer seeking damages under the Jones Act, 46 U.S.C. § 688, the general maritime law of the United States, and for penalty wages under 46 U.S.C. § 596.
