On November 15, 1978, defendant was convicted by a jury of felonious assault in violation of MCL 750.82; MSA 28.277. Immediately after the jury's verdict, defendant entered a plea of guilty to the supplemental information charing him as a second offender. Defendant was sentenced on January 8, 1979, to serve three months total confinement, three months in a work release program, and, thereafter, four and one-half years probation.
