In April, 1976, a Suffolk County jury found the defendant Gregory Robinson guilty of murder in the first degree, of armed robbery, and of two counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon.1 Shortly after sentence, counsel filed a formal motion for a new trial and a notice of appeal.
