Delaney, seventeen years old during his trial (after transfer of complaints against him as a juvenile) was convicted on indictments charging him with (a) assault upon a young woman (the victim), with intent to rape her, and (b) assault and battery of the victim. Both offenses arose out of the same set of events, all alleged to have taken place on November 14, 1979.
