The state appeals from a judgment staying sentence, and an order of probation requiring the defendant, Alice R. Dean (Dean), to spend three years in India providing services to the poor as an alternative to incarceration.1 The judgment and order is vacated in part, and the case is remanded for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.
