Defendant was arrested on September 9, 1979, and charged with carrying a pistol in a motor vehicle operated or occupied by him, MCL 750.227; MSA 28.424, and possession of heroin, MCL 333.7403(2)(a); MSA 14.15(7403)(2)(a). The preliminary examination was held on March 20, 1980, and defendant was bound over for trial on both charges. On April 16, 1980, defendant filed a motion to suppress evidence and quash the information, alleging that he had been illegally...
