The plaintiff, Mathilda Durandy, filed this action on February 10, 1977 against the Fairmont Roosevelt Hotel, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as the "Fairmont") for damages sustained from a jewelry loss. Mme. Durandy, while a paying guest at the Fairmont, suffered this loss on the morning of May 22, 1976.
