In 1978, after a jury trial in Superior Court, Washington County, the present petitioner Harry Smith, Jr., was convicted of three counts of receiving stolen property and one of cheating by false pretenses. Smith is now on parole from the resulting concurrent sentences of two-to-four years at Maine State Prison.
