William Ruzicka was discharged by General Motors Corporation ("G.M.") in 1970 for being intoxicated on the job and using threatening and abusive language to his supervisors. He filed a grievance through United Automobile Workers ("U.A.W.") Local 166, claiming that discharge was an unduly harsh penalty for his behavior.
