WATHEN, Justice.

This is an action to recover damages for personal injuries sustained while plaintiff Wendall Pratt was attempting to enter an elevator manufactured and serviced by Otis and located in Freese's department store in Bangor. At the conclusion of the presentation of evidence during trial in Superior Court (Penobscot County), the presiding justice granted defendants' motions for directed verdicts on plaintiffs' negligence claims.2
