This is a defamation case. Lester Lancaster, a policeman for the City of Magnolia, Arkansas, sued the local newspaper, The Daily Banner-News, alleging that he was defamed in a series of editorials the paper ran in 1975. The newspaper filed a motion for summary judgment with affidavits setting forth the actual knowledge the writers had when the editorials were written.
