I. BACKGROUND

In March of 1981, Clopay Corporation ("Clopay") filed suit against Newell Companies, Inc. ("Newell") and against Graber Industries, Inc. ("Graber"). Both suits allege infringement of patents held by Clopay and relating to adjustable window shades.
