Several suits were filed by the parties involving a controversy which arose over the sale of Carico Lake turquoise mine in Nevada. The mine was owned by the Carico Lake Mining Company (Carico). The suits were consolidated for trial. Third-party plaintiff (Roberts) owned an interest in Carico.
