Chischilly, a Navajo Indian, brought suit in District Court in Bernalillo County against General Motors Acceptance Corporation (hereafter, GMAC) for damages for unlawful repossession of a truck. He had purchased the truck from Schultz Buick on August 18, 1976, on a retail installment contract. GMAC financed the transaction and obtained a security interest in the truck.
