On July 19, 1974, the Mayor of Baltimore approved Ordinance No. 701 which amended the City's Comprehensive Rezoning Ordinance which had been passed and approved in 1971. The effect of the amendment was to prohibit sale or lease signs on individual residences in those parts of Baltimore which had been zoned "Residence and Office-Residence Districts."
