HALL, Justice:

This is an appeal from convictions of theft1 by co-defendants Whittenback and Parrett.

Pursuant to police department directives, on March 26, 1979, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Officer Craig Geslison was patrolling an area of Provo, Utah, where several thefts from businesses had recently been reported. He noticed defendants within an all-night laundromat and recognized them from a previous encounter.
