The defendant appeals from his conviction of murder in the first degree. See G.L.c. 278, §§ 33A-33G; St. 1979, c. 346; Mass. R.A.P. 1B, inserted by 378 Mass. 924 (effective July 1, 1979). Early in the morning of Wednesday, May 31, 1978, the body of the victim, a prostitute working in the "Combat Zone" in Boston, was found in an apartment used by several prostitutes as a "trick pad" for entertaining "dates."
