Defendant and Anthony Carr were indicted for the murders and armed robberies of Lloyd Smith and Gene Goodwin. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1973, ch. 38, pars. 9-1 and 18-2.) Carr pleaded guilty to the charges before defendant's trial. Defendant was tried in a bench trial and was found guilty of two counts of murder but not guilty of armed robbery.
