Mr. JUSTICE STENGEL delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial, defendant George Clark was convicted of attempt murder and sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 40 to 75 years. On direct appeal this court affirmed his conviction but reduced his sentence to a term of imprisonment of 10 to 30 years. (People v. Clark (1977), 50 Ill.App.3d 768
