This suit began as an interpleader action but was soon expanded by counterclaims and cross-claims to include a full range of actions arising out of an allegedly forged endorsement of a cashier's check. These claims sought to fix liability for the proceeds of the check (most of which had disappeared) in the absence of the forger (who had died).
