James Rutledge appeals from the denial of his habeas corpus petition, alleging that ineffective assistance by court-appointed trial counsel rendered involuntary his nolo contendere plea to robbery charges. Rutledge asserts that legal advice concerning his speedy trial and conflict of interest claims was so grossly erroneous that it amounted to an unconstitutional deprivation of his right to counsel.
