Defendant was found guilty by a jury of malicious destruction of property, MCL 750.377b; MSA 28.609(2), and resisting and obstructing a police officer, MCL 750.479; MSA 28.747, but mentally ill, MCL 768.36; MSA 28.1059.

Several issues are raised on appeal, however, we need address only the question of whether the trial judge should have appointed a neurological expert as requested by the defendant...
