BEVILACQUA, Chief Justice.

This is a civil action in which a Superior Court jury awarded damages to the plaintiff, Catherine Scittarelli, for personal injuries sustained when the oven door in her kitchen stove flew open, struck her, and tossed her to the floor. The plaintiff filed suit against the Providence Gas Company in 1961. In 1977, the defendant moved for dismissal of the complaint for lack of prosecution...
