This case arose from a controversy among members of the Second Baptist Church in Marianna, Arkansas. At a general church meeting on January 21, 1979, one of the appellants, Rev. N. W. Williams, was removed as Pastor of the church. At the January 21 meeting a motion was made, seconded and voted upon to declare the pulpit vacant.
