DENNIS, Justice.

Defendant, Vernell Nelson, was convicted of two counts of armed robbery, La.R.S. 14:64. On the basis of these convictions and evidence of a 1977 theft conviction he was declared to be a multiple offender; consequently, he was sentenced to serve fifty years' imprisonment at hard labor on each armed robbery conviction.
