MANOUKIAN, Justice:

Appellant, a prisoner at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City, filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus in the First Judicial District Court. On June 19, 1979, a hearing was held at which the trial court orally denied the petition. Three days later, on June 22, 1979, appellant filed a notice of appeal.
