Plaintiff, Maurilo Cardoso dos Santos, a Brazilian citizen and resident, has brought suit against Reading & Bates Drilling Co., Reading & Bates Offshore Drilling Co. (now "Reading & Bates Corp.") and Reading & Bates Perfuracoes, Ltd. (hereinafter "Demaga") under the Jones Act and General Maritime Law for injuries which he sustained while working aboard a drilling barge known as the C.E. THORNTON off the coast of Brazil.
