Appellant Leon Nevels was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of his six-year-old stepson, Rodney Epperson, and of assault with intent to maim and with malice aforethought upon his two-year-old stepdaughter, Alecia Epperson.1 In accordance with the jury verdict, the defendant was sentenced to 50 years' imprisonment for the murder and 20 years' imprisonment for the assault...
