This is an action for personal injuries and property damages by husband and wife, Autrey J. Derouen and Ella R. Derouen. The sole defendant is the State of Louisiana, Department of Transportation and Development, hereinafter referred to as "Department". Plaintiffs were traveling at night on July 20, 1976, at about 10:00 PM on Louisiana Highway 10 when their car struck a hole in the bridge over the Calcasieu River.
