On a plea of guilty, appellant Fred John Waldon convicted on September 22, 1975, of attempted aggravated rape in violation of Minn.Stat. §§ 609.17, .291 (1974). The district court thereupon committed him for a presentence examination by the commissioner of public welfare who recommended that he undergo specialized treatment for his "mental and physical aberrations."
