The events leading to this appeal began when defendant, originally charged with assault with intent to commit murder in violation of § 690.6, The Code, 1977, was convicted of the included offense of assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury, § 694.6. While the charges were pending, the county attorney filed a supplementary information accusing defendant of the "crime" of being a habitual criminal and asking that he be sentenced...
