This is a consolidated appeal from the prosecution of two brothers, William and Kenneth Nally, for the offense of aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 12-4(a)). The offense was committed on September 17, 1977, upon one Gene Ventucci, who was struck with an iron pipe about the face, head and body while on his own front porch.
