After a jury trial, the defendant was convicted of unlawfully carying a firearm in violation of G.L.c. 269, § 10(a), and sentenced to the minimum mandatory term of imprisonment for one year. The day after sentencing, the defendant filed a motion to have his guilty verdict set aside. See G.L.c. 278, § 11.1 The trial judge denied the motion, but stayed execution of the defendant's sentence pending appeal...
