The defendant, Ralph Lowe, was charged on complaint of Adrienne Pranske with being the father of her infant male child. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1973, ch. 106 3/4, par. 54.) At the conclusion of the State's case, the trial court directed the jury to return a verdict that the defendant was the father of the child.
