Appellant (landlord) sued appellee (tenant) in the Small Claims Branch of the Superior Court to recover unpaid rent and the cost of cleaning and repairing the landlord's apartment after the tenant left it. The tenant counterclaimed for the return of, or compensation for, a sofa and a rug of hers which remained in the apartment after the tenant's departure. The trial court denied the landlord's claim for back rent, but granted him judgment...
