In September of 1977, the trial court entered a default judgment in favor of plaintiff, George Silny, and against defendant Mitch Lorens, in the amount of $3,000. Several months subsequent to the judgment, Lorens filed a petition under section 72 of the Civil Practice Act (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 110, par. 72) seeking a vacatur of the judgment.
