On December 22, 1976, a court sitting without a jury convicted appellant of voluntary manslaughter, conspiracy and possession of an instrument of crime. These convictions arose from the shooting death of William Maude of Philadelphia on July 9, 1976. It was the culmination of a week of related hostilities.
