The genesis of this appeal is an action for dissolution of marriage filed by Cynthia against her second husband, Word, in April of 1977. This was the second marriage for each of them and each had a child by a previous marriage. In her amended petition Cynthia requested that the court grant her custody of her stepson, Hart Simpson or, in the alternative, visitation privileges. Hart was born during Word's prior marriage.
