Following a jury trial commenced on October 5, 1976, appellant was convicted of simple assault1 and possessing an instrument of crime.2 Post-trial motions were denied, and appellant was sentenced to terms of imprisonment of from one to two years on the simple assault charge and from two and one-half to five years on the charge of possessing an instrument of crime.
