In separate grand jury indictments returned on March 20, 1970 Adam Smith was charged with the January 26, 1970 aggravated rape of two young girls in Jefferson Parish. La.Rev.Stat. 14:42. Because of his indigency counsel was appointed to represent defendant. When he withdrew for personal reasons, it was necessary to replace the original appointee, and a second attorney was appointed.
