On July 5, 1978, the Plaintiff, Gertrude M. Martel, a resident of Androscoggin County, commenced in Superior Court in that county an action against the Defendant, the Inhabitants of the Town of Old Orchard Beach, seeking damages for personal injuries which she sustained almost one year earlier on July 10, 1977 when she tripped over the metal base of a parking meter which projected above the surface of a sidewalk.
